Domaine Petraghje Awarded in World Competition
French producer Domaine Petraghje has won a Silver Award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
In view of the maturity of the olives, we did not expect to win this year, so our joy is even greater. For our customers and ourselves, it is a guarantee of quality and all the work has paid off.
Roger Maurizi, owner
The Corsican producer earned its premier NYIOOC accolade for its Paloma brand, a medium Ghjermana di Casinca.
"We are proud to have won at the NYIOOC," owner Roger Maurizi said. "In view of the maturity of the olives, we did not expect to win this year, so our joy is even greater."
"For our customers and ourselves, it is a guarantee of quality and all the work provided throughout the year has paid off," he added.
However, Maurizi said the 2022/23 crop year was not easy, with high heat and drought complicating the harvest.
"The harvest was difficult," he said. "The olives matured earlier than in other years. The summer was very hot, and the water restrictions for the irrigation of our olive grove complicated things."
"But despite all that, we still managed to get a pretty good harvest," Maurizi added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
