Virgen de La Estrella Awarded Gold for Organic Morisca

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Spanish producer Sociedad Cooperativa Virgen de La Estrella has won a Gold Award for its Texturas brand at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We are grateful for the recognition of the effort made by our partners both on their farms and the investments in our oil mill. The award demonstrates the improvement of our processes and the expansion of our brand.

Fabián Gordillo, general manager

The organic robust Morisca from the Extremaduran producer has been added to the annual listing of award winners, considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

"We are grateful for the recognition of the effort made by our partners both on their farms and the investments in our oil mill," said Fabián Gordillo, the cooperative's general manager. "The award demonstrates the improvement of our processes and the expansion of our brand, in order to transmit greater value and compensate the effort of our partners."

In the 2021/22 crop year, the cooperative produced 4,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. However, the harvest was far from straightforward with several challenges emerging along the way.

"We have had to face several challenges during this harvest," Gordillo said. "The main objective was to be able to maintain the quality that the olive had on the tree. Finally, we can say with relief and joy that we have had an excellent campaign in terms of quality and quantity."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. The complete list of winners can be viewed on the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
