This year's award at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition was for Le Case di Lavinia, an organic medium-intensity Tonda Iblea monovarietal.
"Every year is a new challenge. But, in the end, our Tonda Iblea always rewards us!" company owner Mariagrazia Spanó said when she learned of the win.
The company produced 3,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil from hand-harvested Tonda Iblea olives this year.
"We are very proud and honored. This is a very important recognition. We are grateful for the attention and appreciation that our Le Case di Lavinia Bio-Dop has obtained. Thank you so much," Spanó said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
