Priordei Awarded for Catalan Monovarietal at NYIOOC

2 years agoBy OOT Staff

Agro Foods & Commerce from Spain has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

This award helps us to make these values known to the world and creates an environment for the economic and social development in such a rich but disadvantaged area.

Jordi Ciuraneta Riu, CEO

The Catalonian producer earned a Silver Award for its Priordei 1789 Rojal, a medium-intensity Rojal.

"This award gives us the strength to continue our pursuit of excellence," chief executive Jordi Ciuraneta Rui said. "Olive oil is the knowledge passed down from generation to generation, the culture of effort and constancy."

"This award helps us to make these values known to the world and creates an environment for the economic and social development in such a rich but disadvantaged area," he added.

Ciuraneta cited the topography of Priorat, drought and extreme temperatures as the most significant challenge the company faced in producing award-winning extra virgin olive oil.

"Despite all these challenges, we managed to make it possible by putting all the effort, hard work and enthusiasm of our family into every bottle," he said. "Everything around an olive tree manifests as the symbol of who we are: constant, persevering and resilient."

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
