OPG Turinela Overcomes Odds To Win Gold for Turinela
OPG Turinela has won a Gold Award at NYIOOC World, an accomplishment the company's owner called "overwhelming" when she learned of the win at the world's premier olive oil competition.
We dedicated ourselves to quality without compromise, hoping to be amongst the best someday, and here we are! This has motivated us to strive for excellence in the years to come.
Aurora Volarevic said about the award
Owner Aurora Volarevic said the company's hopes for the biggest harvest to date from its 450 trees were dashed when conditions turned sour.
"While hoping for our biggest harvest yet, we were unexpectedly hit with a bad season. Despite the hardships, we never sacrificed the quality of our olive oil. With a few helping hands and a lot of perseverance, our toughest season was the one that brought home the gold," Volarevic said.
OPG Turinela produces its extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. It was awarded for its Turinela, a medium blend.
"'Kids, we made it, GOLD in New York!' That sentence just came out, the sense of accomplishment and success was overwhelming. Our olive oil journey started 10 years ago. We dedicated ourselves to quality without compromise, hoping to be amongst the best someday, and here we are! This has motivated us to strive for excellence in the years to come," Volarevic said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
