After Challenging 2019, Olivos del Sur Wins Gold

Chilean producer Olivos del Sur has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

This is the first time we participate in the NYIOOC and it's an extraordinary feeling.

Claudio Lovazzano, head of marketing

The company, which is located in Chile's fertile central valley, won the award for its O-Live & Co brand, a medium blend.

"This is the first time we participate in the NYIOOC and it's an extraordinary feeling," head of marketing Claudio Lovazzano said. "Being among the winners is not only an honor and a huge satisfaction, but a confirmation of our commitment to producing the highest quality olive oil, our company partners and workers, our loyal consumers and our environment."

In the 2019/20 season, the company produced six million liters of extra virgin olive oil using machine methods.

In spite of the successful debut, Lovazzano said that 2019 was a challenging year for producers in Chile for a number of reasons.

"Indeed, 2019 was very challenging for many reasons, such as the water shortage," he said. "At the end of 2019 in Chile, we lived through some troubled times [widespread protests throughout the country] and as everybody knows 2020 didn't start as expected."

"But all these reasons gave us one mission: to work even harder to deliver the best extra virgin olive oil to our loyal consumers," he said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
