Olivko Wins 3 Awards at World Olive Oil Competition

Olivko has won three Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

The Tunisian producer received three Golds for an organic delicate Chemlali, an organic medium Chetoui and an organic delicate Wild Cultivar.

"What is good about winning in New York is it wipes out all the tiredness and rewards the hard work I went through during the harvest season in order to produce such great quality olive oil," owner Karim Fitouri said. "Although I have won quite a few awards around the world this year, an award in New York is always very special for me."

In the 2019/20 season, Olivko produced 100 tons of organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

Fitouri said that Tunisia had a very good harvest in 2019 and he ran into few problems during the crop season.

"This year in Tunisia we had a near-record yield in terms of production, but not enough people to harvest," he said. "Also, the fruit was ready to press later than usual."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
