Molino del Hortelano Wins Gold
Spanish producer Molino del Hortelano has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We feel so happy. This award is the result of a complete year of hard work, and this makes us promise more and better results in the next harvest.
Juan Cabello, owner
The company produces organic extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia from Hojiblanca olives using traditional methods. Molino del Hortelano earned the Gold Award for its organic robust Hojiblanca.
"We feel so happy," owner Juan Cabello said. "This award is the result of a complete year of hard work, and this makes us promise more and better results in the next harvest."
For the producers behind Molino del Hortelano, this year's award is all the more meaningful after all the challenges posed by the 2020/21 crop year.
"This harvest was hard, with crazy weather and a large yield, but we did our best," Cabello said. "The team grows this year, now the two sons of the family work hand-in-hand with us and that made it possible for us to manage all the adversity."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
