María Dobao, Quality Department, Molino del Genil S.L.
The company, which produces extra virgin olive oil from 20 million trees using machine methods in Andalusia, Spain, was recognized for two oils in the 2019/2020 season. Its Premium Picual, a medium Picual, snagged a Gold Award and its Premium Arbequina, a medium Arbequina, took Silver.
The company struggled with unseasonably high temperatures in the fall, said María Dobao of the quality department.
"The early 2019 harvest was very difficult to obtain a good quality in oils because in our region (Seville, Spain) it was too hot in October. For this reason our production manager had to work with many small batches of fruit to obtain these premium oils in Molino del Genil," Dobao said.
Dobao said the company was very pleased with the awards, and noted that such recognition can help boost sales in the world market.
"These awards are very important for our company. We are focused on improved sales in the international markets and these mentions help us to become better known," she said.
