Carefully Crafted Kalamata Earns Kouros of Zeus Gold
Peloponnesian producer Kouros of Zeus has been awarded for its medium Kalamata at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
"I am very happy to have won a Gold Award from such an important competition," owner Efthymios Christakos said. "We produced an innovative extra virgin olive oil from Kalamata-Kalamon olives with love and devotion and feel rewarded with the results."
"Winning this award is another step in building trust between our customers and our company," he added.
In the 2021/22 crop year, the Greek company overcame a challenging harvest to produce 10,000 liters of olive oil using traditional methods in Krokes Lakonias.
"The challenge we had was drought in the summer and then many rainy days during harvesting," Christakos said. "One more difficulty in our region was finding labor. Despite this, our family along with occasional workers harvested on time to achieve the results we wanted for the quality of our extra virgin olive oil."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
