Il Signorino Wins Gold With PDO Blend at NYIOOC
Italian producer Azienda Agricola Grani Giorgio has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
For a young company like mine, based on innovation and high quality, this success is representing great pride. I am really happy to introduce the Tuscia region and our extra virgin olive oil to the whole world.
Giorgio Grani, owner
In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 1,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Lazio from Frantoio, Leccino and Canino olives using traditional methods. Azienda Agricola Grani Giorgio earned the Gold Award for its Il Signorino PDO Tuscia brand, a robust blend.
"For a young company like mine, based on innovation and high quality, this success is representing great pride," owner Giorgio Grani said. "I am really happy to introduce the Tuscia region and our extra virgin olive oil to the whole world."
"I hope that this important contest in New York will be just the beginning of great series of successes," he added.
For the producer behind Il Signorino, the award is especially gratifying after several climatic challenges complicated the 2020 harvest.
"Luckily, the climate in our area and the absence of olive flies have helped in achieving a high-quality product," Grani said. "Unfortunately, the year of rain and a summer hailstorm did not allow us to collect large quantities. Anyway, the most important thing is to bring the best quality product to the table of our customers."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
