Agroindustrial Siracusa Wins Gold at World Competition
Chilean producer Agroindustrial Siracusa has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
This award is true repayment for all our efforts in a year that has been full of challenges, adverse weather and the usual problems in the field. On top of that, the pandemic put stress on all areas of the company.
Felipe Juillerat, CEO
In the 2019/20 crop year, the company produced 1.55 million liters of extra virgin olive oil from Koroneiki, Arbequina and Arbosana olives using machine methods. Agroindustria Siracusa earned the Gold Award for its Aura Limited Edition brand, a medium blend.
"This award is true repayment for all our efforts in a year that has been full of challenges, adverse weather and the usual problems in the field," Felipe Juillerat, the company's CEO, said. "On top of that, the pandemic put stress on all areas of the company."
"We have had to deal as much as possible with the Covid-19 pandemic, protecting all of our team to continue with the 2020 harvest," he added. "Climatic conditions last year – less rain and high temperatures – hampered our ability to capture all the fresh aromas and flavors of our oil, which makes it challenging to come up with a premium product."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
