Zeet Awarded for Tonda Iblea at NYIOOC
Zeet, a London-based importer, has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
The company earned the award for an organic medium Tonda Iblea that it sources from its growing partners in Sicily.
Zeet also produces its own extra virgin olive oil in Tunisia and sources other oils from growers in Catalonia and Andalusia.
Daly Hamid, a fourth-generation olive farmer and the company's owner, said winning at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest is "simply amazing news."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Domaine Zeet produced 25 tons of olive oil using traditional methods in Tunisia.
However, Hamid said that the "lack of water and dry weather" experienced in Sicily made the previous harvest a challenging one.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
