4 years agoBy OOT Staff

French producer Domaine de Gerbaud has won a Gold Award for its medium blend at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We are so thrilled about this award. Winning a Gold will ease the marketing of our olive oil in Europe and the United Kingdom. The Olive Oil Sommelier Program gave us so many insights and confidence to try again, and we did it!

The company, which is based in the southern Luberon, produced 2,700 liters of extra virgin olive oil in the 2019/20 season.

"We are absolutely over the moon," co-owners André Coetzee and Louisa Sherman said. "We are so thrilled about this award. Winning a Gold will ease the marketing of our olive oil in Europe and the United Kingdom. The [Olive Oil Times Education Lab] Olive Oil Sommelier Program gave us so many insights and confidence to try again, and we did it!"

Domaine de Gerbaud harvests Aglandau, Salonenque and Grossane olives using traditional methods.

The co-owners said that in spite of their success, 2019/20 season was marked by significant challenges, especially from the climate.

"We suffered wind storms during the flower-forming stage and too much rain during the harvest period," the two said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
