5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Cultura Olive Oil, produced by the Greek company Labrini Tsitsou, has won a Gold Award for an organic delicate Olympia monovarietal at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We feel our efforts are being recognized. Our goal is to produce superior-quality olive oil, and the NYIOOC award attests that we’re on the right track.

The company produces organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional harvesting methods.

"Entering the competition for the first time and winning a Gold certainly makes us very proud," co-owner Lamprini Tsitsou said. "We feel our efforts are being recognized."

"Now, the bar has been raised even higher, but this validation helps us go on and keep up the hard work," he added. "Our goal is to produce superior-quality olive oil, and the NYIOOC award attests that we’re on the right track."

While the crop year has ended successfully for Cultura Olive Oil, Tsitsou said that climate change had caused plenty of problems and will likely continue to do so in the future.

"Climate change is the greatest challenge of all of us. For us, 2019 was a tough year," he said. "The high temperatures during the summer and the harvesting season took a toll on some of our trees and damaged the olive fruits."

"We strive to act quickly, taking into account the particular circumstances, and to always make informed decisions," Tsitsou added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
