Azeite Monasto Claims NYIOOC Win After Challenging Harvest
Brazilian producer Azeite Monasto has won a Gold Award for its delicate blend at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are extremely happy and fulfilled with a sense of accomplishment. We took over the farm a short time ago (two years). We had many difficulties in taking control of things and being able to produce an oil that, in our view, is more identified with the quality we intend to print on the brand.

In the 2019/20 crop year, the company produced three tons of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods and earning its first-ever award at the NYIOOC.
"We are extremely happy and fulfilled with a sense of accomplishment," owner Rosana Chiavassa said. "We took over the farm a short time ago (two years). We had many difficulties in taking control of things and being able to produce an oil that, in our view, is more identified with the quality we intend to print on the brand."
Chiavassa added that the award was especially gratifying after the tough harvest that Brazilian producers faced last year.
"There was little rain in the southeast of Brazil during the blossoming period, which ended up hampering the 'standard' production process," she said. "This led to the decision to produce a different olive oil, which will probably be our standard from now on."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. The annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
