Aceites Vicente Méndez Wins With Outstanding Hojiblanca

Aceites Vicente Méndez, from Spain, has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Winning this award is a tribute to our family and our land. It is a reward for the work we have dedicated ourselves to throughout the year.

The Andalusian producers picked up the award for their Venta Valero brand, a robust Hojiblanca. It is the second consecutive year the oil has won Gold.

"Winning this award is a tribute to our family and our land," distributor María del Mar Méndez Roldán said. "It is a reward for the work we have dedicated ourselves to throughout the year. Winning an international award is a great moment of pride for us farmers."

Aceites Vicente Méndez produces extra virgin olive oil from Hojiblanca olives using traditional methods.

Méndez said that the 2019/20 season, like any other, came with its fair share of challenges. The goal of any good producer, she said, is to overcome them.

"Our family business has been dedicated to the olive harvest for three generations," she said. "Challenges are one of our part of day-to-day life as olive growers. Our hands are used to planting and know how to wait. We have grown up playing and working in the fields and adapting to every problem that came our way."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
