Querciamatta Awarded for Organic Blends at NYIOOC

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Querciamatta has won a Gold and Silver Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are extremely honored to receive these prestigious awards from the NYIOOC. Receiving such a prize repays us for all the effort and hard work we daily put in making a high-quality product.

Susanna Peruzzi, co-owner

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 2,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany from Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olives using traditional methods.

Querciamatta earned the Gold Award for its Anno Zero Collection Organic Italian, a medium blend. The company won the Silver Award for its Anno Zero Collection Organic Tuscan IGP, also a medium blend.

"We are extremely honored to receive these prestigious awards from the NYIOOC," co-owner Susanna Peruzzi said. "We are sure that they will be one of the most important in the presentation of our two award-winning products. Receiving such a prize repays us for all the effort and hard work we daily put in making a high-quality product."

For the producers behind Querciamatta, this year's awards are especially significant after the Covid-19 pandemic shuttered many of their traditional sales channels for the majority of the last 15 months.

"The 2020/21 harvest was very good in terms of the quantity and characters of our oils," Peruzzi said. "The current pandemic situation does not allow us to distribute our product as we want, as every part of the restaurant and hospitality sector is slowed down or frozen."

"We decided to implement a private communication channel to be able to continue the distribution of our brand," she added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
