Fattoria San Michele a Torri Celebrate Gold Award

9 months agoBy OOT Staff

Fattoria San Michele a Torri from Italy has won a Gold Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

We are very proud to have won in New York, a great city and great market with great people. We believe this award will help us better establish ourselves internationally.

Leonardo Francalanci, CEO

Based in Tuscany, the organic producer earned its third World Competition award for its Laudemio brand, a medium-intensity Frantoio.

"We are very proud to have won in New York, a great city and market with great people," chief executive Leonardo Francalanci said. "We believe this award will help us better establish ourselves internationally."

In the 2023/24 crop year, Fattoria San Michele a Torri produced 30,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from its 50,000 tree grove using traditional methods.

"This year was characterized by a very hot summer and poor fruit set, which led to poor olive production," Francalanci said.

"The most important challenge to obtain a high-quality extra virgin olive oil was to choose the right harvest time," he added. "We anticipated the harvest by about 10 days to have the olives at the right point of ripeness and thus obtain an excellent oil."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's preeminent olive oil quality contest. Its annual list of award winners is the authoritative guide to the world's best olive oils and the dedicated producers who craft them.
