Dimitri Olive Farms Wins World Competition Award

Greek producer Dimitri Olive Farms has won a Silver Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

After speaking to other producers and hearing how hard it is to get Gold or Silver, I’m very pleased with the result.

Situated in Laconia, on the Peloponnese peninsula, the company earned its debut World Competition accolade for its Dimitri Unfiltered brand, a medium-intensity Koroneiki.

"This is the first time we've entered a competition, and even though I was skeptical at first, I’m very glad we won a Silver Award," said owner Dimitrios Komninos.

"After speaking to other producers and hearing how hard it is to get Gold or Silver, I’m very pleased with the result," he added. "We know our product is pure and robust with a lot of flavor, and I’m glad the judges thought that as well."

Komninos said the award was especially gratifying after a challenging harvest characterized by difficulty finding enough laborers and the emergence of pernicious olive pests.

"Staffing seems to become more of an issue for olive picking every year, as well as droughts and minor issues with the olive fruit fly," he said. "However, we installed a watering system on one of our farms."
