OEL Koroneiki Awarded at World Competition

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

The German producer, Tzamouranis & Schmidt Internationale Handels, has won a Silver Award for its medium monovarietal at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Our brand OEL is, compared to other olive oil brands, quite new in the business. For this reason, we were incredibly honored to receive the award. It will be the right boost to increase the notoriety of our brand.

Marc Vincent Schmidt, CEO

Last year, the company produced 100,000 liters of organic Koroneiki extra virgin olive oil in Kalamata, Greece, using traditional methods. Tzamouranis & Schmidt were awarded for OEL Berlin, an organic medium Koroneiki.

"Our brand OEL is, compared to other olive oil brands, quite new in the business," company CEO Marc Vincent Schmidt said. "For this reason, we were incredibly honored to receive the award. It will be the right boost to increase the notoriety of our brand."

The award caps off a challenging year for the company, its CEO said, citing climate change as one of his major concerns.

"We were facing unpredictable weather conditions," Vincent Schmidt said. "It was very hard to organize and structure our harvest this year."

"Over the past years, and due to climate change, the weather in the Peloponnese region is changing," he added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
