Sotaroni Victorious at 2020 NYIOOC

5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

Spanish producer Sotaroni has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The company produced 27 tons of extra virgin olive oil in the Valencian Community from 15,000 Arbequina and Benizar olive trees using traditional methods.

It is an honor to have been awarded in this prestigious contest, it is a recognition of hard work. For us, the elaboration of a unique product can be difficult and frustrating, but recognition like this gives us the strength and hope to keep going and always stay strong.

Nicolás Sanjuan Perez, CEO, Sotaroni

Improvements made by the company during the 2019/2020 season paid off, CEO Nicolás Sanjuan Perez said after receiving news of the award.

"It was a pretty good harvest, there are always challenges to be overcome each year. This year we set out to improve the times between harvesting and milling and make a more traditional and respectful harvest with olive trees. We have taken more than any year but the result has been very satisfactory," Sanjuan Perez said.

The winning oil was Sotaroni Master Blend, a delicate blend produced by Torrevella Explotación Agricola, SL in Valencian Community, Spain.

"It is an honor to have been awarded in this prestigious contest, it is a recognition of hard work. For us, the elaboration of a unique product can be difficult and frustrating, but recognition like this gives us the strength and hope to keep going and always stay strong," Sanjuan Perez said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
