SOTAM to Expand American Footprint with NYIOOC Win

Tunisian producer SOTAM has won an award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The company earned a Silver Award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Nichen brand, a medium-intensity blend.

Owner Bilel Hachicha said he was pleased to receive another award in New York. Since 2021, the company has earned seven awards for its blend and a pair of native monovarietals.

He added that the awards help market his brand the in the lucrative American market.

In the 2022/23 crop year, SOTAM produced 200 tons of extra virgin olive oil using machine methods. Hachicha attributed this year's success to the early harvest and good oil yields in the olives.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
