Sogno di Oliva Wins Silver at World Competition

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Sogno di Oliva from the United States has won a Silver Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are honored and so grateful to have received a Silver Award from the prestigious NYIOOC... The award has sparked a lot more interest in our oil and our sales have been increasing. We are thrilled.

Bryan Johnson, owner

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced its extra virgin olive oil in Riverside County, California, from Frantoio, Coratina, Leccino, Moraiolo, Maurino and Pendolino olives using traditional methods. Sogno di Oliva earned the Silver Award for a medium blend.

"We are honored and so grateful to have received a Silver Award from the prestigious NYIOOC," owner Bryan Johnson said. "It's the first time we submitted our oil and didn't really know what to expect. The award has sparked a lot more interest in our oil and our sales have been increasing. We are thrilled."

For the producers behind Sogno di Oliva, this award is especially gratifying after a low yield in 2020 and gives them one more reason to be optimistic for the coming harvest.

"Like many olive producers in California, we too experienced a very light harvest," Johnson said. "We are a small family-run farm and typically will produce 150 gallons. This last harvest we produced only 45 gallons. However, we are optimistic about the 2021 harvest."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
