OPG Laurenta Triumphs Again at World Competition
OPG Laurenta from Croatia has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
We feel really proud... However, with this type of award comes the obligation to work even harder to keep the quality at the highest level.
Domagoj Živković said about the award
The family producer from Dalmatia earned its second consecutive award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest for a delicate Oblica.
"We feel really proud," owner Domagoj Živković said. "Primarily, this award is a confirmation of our good work throughout the year. However, with this type of award comes the obligation to work even harder to keep the quality at the highest level."
In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 1,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Despite another success at the NYIOOC, Živković said climate change continues to pose a growing threat to olive growers in southern Croatia.
"Among the most important challenge is the increasingly obvious impacts of climate change that significantly affects not only yields but also the quality of olive oil," he said.
"The lack of the necessary amounts of water for irrigation forces us to learn new methods of olive processing," Živković added. "Which is not so bad because it brings you even closer to nature itself."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
