Olivartia Triumphs at World Competition
Olivartia from Greece has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
Our commitment is to continue with the same passion and love to promote the liquid gold of Crete in markets all over the world.
George Xilouris, owner
The Messaran producer earned a Silver Award for its Hygeia brand, a medium-intensity Koroneiki.
"Olive oil is one of the main ingredients that characterize Greek cuisine," owner George Xilouris said. "We are proud of the good quality of olive oil that the Greek land produces."
"Our commitment is to continue with the same passion and love to promote the liquid gold of Crete in markets all over the world," he added.
In the 2022/23 crop year, Olivatria produced 2,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil.
"The post-harvest operations, such as the cleanliness at all stages, the immediate transport of the olives to the mill and the overall management of olive oil production were our biggest challenges," Xilouris said.
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
