Oleofer S.L. has won a Gold Award for a monovarietal in the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
It is a great honor to be awarded again at NYIOOC. It means a huge recognition of our labor and efforts, and as a family company, we feel very proud of it.
Jose Antonio Fernández Hidalgo, Co-owner, Oleofer S.L.
It was the third NYIOOC World win for the Spanish company, which produces extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia from Picual olives using traditional methods.
The 2019/2020 season was marked by significant challenges, the company's co-owner said after receiving news of the award.
"The early harvest extra virgin olive oil elaboration is a challenge every year. The high-quality requirements [we have] established, lead us to control carefully the full process from the farm to the oil mill: ripening stage and quality of the fruit, temperatures, mixing times, etc. But fortunately, it was worth it," Jose Antonio Fernández Hidalgo said.
It was the third award for the company's Tierras De Tavara Premium, a medium Picual.
"It is a great honor to be awarded again at NYIOOC. It means a huge recognition of our labor and efforts, and as a family company, we feel very proud of it. We will continue working hard in the future to keep and even increase the quality of our extra virgin olive oil," Fernández Hidalgo said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
