Muela-Olives Wins Gold Award for Outstanding Hojiblanca
Southern Spanish producer Muela-Olives has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Situated in the Subbetica Mountains in Córdoba, Andalusia, the family company earned its seventh NYIOOC Gold Award for its Olisone brand, a medium Hojiblanca.
"It is a proud moment and great satisfaction to know that one of our extra virgin oils is among the best in the world," owner Rafael Rodríguez said.
For Rodríguez and the rest of the team at the 50-year-old company, this year's award – their third consecutive Gold Award for the Olisone brand – is especially gratifying after a challenging harvest.
"Climatological adversities, lack of rain, low fruit yield, the socio-economic situations and war in Europe," all provided plenty of obstacles to harvesting and marketing Mulea-Olives' olive oil.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
