Liocharis Kefalonia Celebrates Another NYIOOC Win
Greek producer Liocharis Kefalonia Olive Mill was again awarded at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
The Kefalonia-based producer earned a Silver Award for its medium blend Liocharis brand. The brand previously earned Silver Awards in 2020 and 2021.
"It is very exciting waiting for the NYIOOC results this time of year, and we are very glad we succeeded," owner Dionysios Garbis said.
In the 2022/23 crop year, the mill produced 29,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. However, Garbis said success did not come without its fair share of challenges.
"The weather was very challenging this year," he said. The fruit quality was affected by high humidity and a lot of heat. We are glad we distinguished good from bad and collected the best we could."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
