Italian producer Le Morine has won a Silver Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are very happy and proud of winning this award. This is an occasion to make our product known to the world and to push us to do better and better, aware that we are going in the right direction.
Ughetta Torrini, co-owner
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany from Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Pendolino olives using traditional methods. Le Morine earned the Silver Award for its Antico Frantoio Doglia brand, a delicate blend.
"We are very happy and proud of winning this award," co-owner Ughetta Torrini said. "This is an occasion to make our product known in the world and to push us to do better and better, aware that we are going in the right direction."
For the producers behind Le Morine, the 2020 harvest was excellent in terms of quality but came with its fair share of challenges.
"In our region, the harvesting was very good in terms of quality," Torrini said. "In the last few years, due to climate change, the challenge is the fight against the olive fly."
"We organize intense monitoring all summer long to control the infestation for ourselves and other local farmers," she added. "Our study realized that a common organic treatment is very efficient against this insect."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
