Le Creve Wins with Casaliva in New York
Le Creve from Italy has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
Every year, I want to improve, and so we made a great product. I'm very proud. I want to thank my family and our agronomist.
Paolo Forelli, owner
The Veneto-based producer earned a Gold Award for its Le Creve Garda PDO brand, a medium Casaliva, which previously earned a Gold Award in 2021.
"Every year, I want to improve, and so we made a great product," owner Paolo Forelli said. "I'm very proud. I want to thank my family and our agronomist."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Le Creve produced 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
"The summer was very hot, and some trees suffered," Forelli said. "Fortunately, Lake Garda gives us some thunderstorms with lightning and abundant rain, a nice gift to start the harvest on my birthday on October 12th."
"We managed to do a good job," he added. "From 100 kilograms of fruit, we produced 12 kilograms of oil. Usually, more is produced."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
