Green Basket Japan Adds to Winning Record at NYIOOC
Green Basket Japan Inc. logged its third consecutive win at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the industry's premier quality contest.
For me, winning an award at the NYIOOC confirms what I’ve done. All the efforts have paid off.
Kai Kato, CEO, Green Basket Japan, Inc.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Japan from Frantoio, Leccino, Nevedillo Blanca and Lucca olives using traditional methods.
The 2019/2020 season was marked by severe weather, company CEO Kai Kato said upon learning of the win.
"This year Japan faced huge typhoons and heavy rains around harvesting period. One of the typhoons which attacked just before harvest was historically huge and unprecedented. Unfortunately, some of the trees fell down and of course so did the fruits. That was the most challenging happening," Kato said.
The winning oil was the company's Any Varieties Blend, a medium blend.
"For me, winning an award at the NYIOOC confirms what I’ve done. All the efforts have paid off," Kato said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
