Fimas Awarded for Quality After Diligent Harvest

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Croatian producer Fimas has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

I am satisfied and glad my hard work paid off.

Mario Paunović, owner

The company picked up the award for its Valencano brand, an organic medium blend.

"I am satisfied and glad my hard work paid off," owner Mario Paunović said.

In the 2019/20 season, Fimas produced 1,500 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil from Leccino, Oblica, Buza, Bjelica and Pendolino olives using traditional methods.

Paunović said that he encountered very few problems throughout the harvest due to the help of his friends.

"About 50 friends took part in the harvest, so there were no problems," he said. "We worked and had fun at the same time."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
