Fattoria di Maiano Triumphs at 2023 NYIOOC

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Fattoria di Maiano from Italy has been awarded at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

Winning such an important competition excites us and makes us proud of what we do every year to produce a high-quality organic extra virgin olive oil.

Tommaso Miari Fulcis, co-owner

The Tuscan producer earned a Gold Award for its Laudemio brand, an organic medium blend of Morellini and Frantoio olives.

"Winning such an important competition excites us and makes us proud of what we do every year to produce a high-quality organic extra virgin olive oil," co-owner Tommaso Miari Fulcis said.

"When we produce our extra virgin olive oil, we always dedicated a lot of work and passion," he added. "Behind a bottle of our extra virgin olive oil, there is not just a product; there is a story, there is a landscape and there are people."

In the 2022/23 crop year, Fattoria di Maiano produced 80,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"This year, the harvest was poor due to the very arid summer," Miari Fulcis said. "We had a 40-percent drop in production and had difficulties managing the processing of olives."

"On the other hand, however, we had excellent quality with very high biophenols," he added. "It's been about two years since we have fertilized and kept clearing the olive groves with Dexter cows. This seems to work."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
