Ellora Fine Foods Wins 2 Gold Awards at NYIOOC

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Ellora Fine Foods has won two Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We never thought we would win two Gold Awards and have a 100-percent success rate at the tough NYIOOC. Integrity in quality and ethics behind the brand were the key ingredients for success.

Praful Mehta, CEO

The company earned the awards for two delicate Koroneiki extra virgin olive oils: one produced in Messara and the other produced in Kolymvari Chanion Kritis.

"We were pleasantly surprised and quite elated that Ellora Farms won Gold Awards for both the entries we submitted – PDO Kolymvari and PDO Messara from Crete," CEO Praful Mehta said.

"We never thought we would win two Gold Awards and have a 100-percent success rate at the tough NYIOOC," he added. "Integrity in quality and ethics behind the brand were the key ingredients for success."

Ellora Fine Foods produces extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

Mehta said that the 2019/20 season came with its fair share of challenges.

"Overall the harvest season for 2019 was a surprising one for Crete, with the production level projections in disarray for many farms and mills," he said. "Unseasonably warm weather early in the harvest season contributed to the prevalence of the olive fly and other microbes, which lead to many challenges on several parts of the island."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
