Douzenis Celebrates NYIOOC Win After Challenging Season
Douzenis Olive Oils from Greece has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
We are proud to have won in such a prestigious competition. It rewards our efforts and encourages us to become better.
Konstantina Douzeni, marketing manager
In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 4,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. The company earned the Silver Award for its Theoni brand, a delicate blend of Koroneiki and Manaki olives.
"We are proud to have won in such a prestigious competition," said Konstantina Douzeni, the company's marketing manager. "This achievement gives our company the opportunity to expand and advertise all over the world. It rewards our efforts and encourages us to become better."
Despite the company's success with its first-ever NYIOOC entrance, Douzeni acknowledged that plenty of challenges lie ahead.
"Climate change reduces our production every year," she said. "The greatest challenge we have is to adapt with long-term solutions. The Covid-19 pandemic affected our harvest by raising the price of our product significantly due to energy and raw materials' high costs."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
