Domaine Adonis Celebrates Four Awards at 2023 NYIOOC

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Tunisian producer Domaine Adonis has won four awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

An award is always encouraging for a producer especially when we do the work from the olive grove to the bottle.

Salah Ben Ayed, owner

The family estate earned four Gold Awards for organic medium-intensity Koroneiki, Arbosana, Chetoui and Chemlali monovarietals. The company previously earned three Gold Awards in 2022.

"An award is always encouraging for a producer, especially when we do the work from the olive grove to the bottle," owner Sala Ben Ayed said. "However, being awarded at the NYIOOC with four Gold Awards makes us very proud and reflects the quality of our oils and our job."

In the 2022/23 crop year, Domaine Adonis produced 20,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Still, Ben Ayed said climate change remains the most significant challenge to producing award-winning olive oil.

"The biggest challenge is to produce a high-quality extra virgin olive oil during a drought that has lasted for three years and face the increasingly evident impacts of climate change," he said.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
