Tuscan Producer Awarded for Colle Del Giachi PDO
Italian Azienda Giachi Giovanni has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
I always am overwhelmed with joy to win this Gold Award. As we say in Italy, it's like touching the sky with your finger. This a prestigious award that we as a company truly value; and it helps us with our mission to produce the best.
Alberto Giachi, co-owner
In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 400 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany from Frantoio and Moraiolo olives using machine methods. Azienda Giachi Giovanni earned the Gold Award for its Colle Del Giachi PDO Chianti Classico, a medium blend.
"I always am overwhelmed with joy to win this Gold Award," co-owner Alberto Giachi said. "As we say in Italy, it's like touching the sky with your finger. This a prestigious award that we as a company truly value; and it helps us with our mission to produce the best."
For the producers behind Azienda Giachi Giovanni, 2020 was one of the best harvests in memory with the only major challenges coming from their reduced ability to sell their products due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This harvest was stupendous; one of the best in the last 20 years," Giachi said. "The only challenge was the lack of sales due to restaurant closures, but that was a consequence of the current global situation."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
